Imphal, October 24 2011:
The Teacher Eligibility Test which was conducted for the recruitment of teachers under the SSA will prove to be a hindrance in trying to bring about quality education in the state, since 50 % weightage for TET is a huge margin, stated O Yaima, Secretary, All Manipur Students Guardians Association (AMSGA) .
Speaking at a press conference at Palace compound, O Yaima said that TET cannot bring about quality education in the state, only giving adequate training to the teachers will bear fruit.
It will be more fruitful if the teachers are given two years training under the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) apart from the various orientation programmes conducted from time to time.
He pointed out that in a government notification number 1/34/2011 - RR (Education - S) DP (Eight) relating to the recruitment of Primary and Graduate Teachers, it was mentioned that the training of teachers will be relaxed upto 2013 .
If this is the case, then TET should also be relaxed upto 2013 .
TET mark weightage can be reduced to a certain extent since it is also like NET.
It can be reduced to 10 % only.
There seems to be a hidden agenda of the state government in giving a huge mark weightage to TET for the recruitment of teachers, he said.
Further bringing out their own recruitment proposal, he said that 10 % of marks should be for class X, 15% for class XII, 25% for Graduate, 10% for Post Graduate, 20% for Teacher Training, 10% for TET and 10% for Viva Voce .
The idea behind giving 10% for Viva Voce is find out those who stammer while speaking.
