Imphal, June 15 2009:
Former Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Thounaojam Shyamkumar who's sentence in Tihar Jail is warranted in connection with a case of his arrest along with two hardcore militants at IGI Airport some years back has been referred to All India Institute of Medical Science (AIMS), New Delhi from RIMS here.
According to information available with this newspaper, Shyamkumar had surrendered before the Court of the Judicial Magistrate, First Class (JMIC), Imphal on April 18 last after the expiry of his bail security over his case registered at the Imphal Police Station.
He has been sentenced at Manipur Central Jail, Imphal as an Under Trial Prisoner (UTP) since the Court served him judicial remand on the day of his surrender.
However, due to his deteriorating health condition, he was admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) here.
As warrant has been issued by an Additional Session Judge in Delhi against Shyamkumar on the case of his arrest along with two undergrounds, his term at Tihar Jail is pending.
The JMIC, Imphal had given approval for Shyamkumar's deportation to Tihar Jail on June 9 last.
Since he has been treated at RIMS as a heart patient, he is now referred to be treated at AIMS, New Delhi, the source said.
Shyamkumar's referral to AIMS was decided by the State Medical Board in a meeting.
Preparation for shifting him to AIMS as a part of his term at Tihar Jail has been taken up, it added.
Meanwhile, even as the Additional Session Judge in Delhi has issued warrant for the deportation of two others to Tihar Jail, the Additional CJM of Imphal has issued order for the deportation of one, Jayanta, but the Additional CJM is not yet issuing the order for one, Khanshyam.
