Nationwide protest called against AFSPA on April 6; stirs lined-up

Imphal, March 02 2012: Showing solidarity to the over 11 years old fast by Irom Chanu Sharmila demanding repeal of AFSPA, Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign (SSSC) would organise a nationwide protest against continued imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA)-1958 on April 6 next.

Announcing this during a press conference at the office of Sharmila Kanba Lup at Porompat today, leader of National Alliance of People's Movement (NAPM) Faisal Khan recalled that SSSC had organised various events ranging from Candlelight vigils at Rajghat, India Gate and many cities across India to Signature Campaigns at 18 Indian States as well as in many countries, from street march to screening of documentary films at SAARC University, DU, IITs and in many other colleges, from the support show by artists at Gateway of India to human chain at Marine drive, from the historical march from Srinagar to Imphal and from Ahmedabad to Srinagar to meetings with NHRC chairman, from Press Conferences and protest to sending public appeals to the Prime Minister of India.
