Continuing with the mass protest movement against the July 23 Khwairamband encounter, protest demonstrations were staged at different places where effigies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister P Chidambaram were burnt.
Large groups of women staged protest demonstrations at Ngairangbam and Awang Khunou under Patsoi police station in Imphal West district today.
At one point, the protesters were dispersed by police.
But they assembled again and continued with the protest demonstration.
The sit-in-protest staged at Awang Khunou Mayai Leikai under the aegis of the Awang Khunou Apunba Meira Paibi Lup was also dispersed by police.
But minutes after the police team left the spot, the Meira Paibis came back and put up posters reproduced from the photographs published by Tehelka on the Khwairamband killings.
They also held placards and festoons which read as "Punish guilty commandos", "Ibobi, resign from being Chief Minister", "Release arrested Apunba Lup activists without any condition" etc.
The protest demonstration staged at Ngairangbam Awang Mamang Leikai community hall under the aegis of the Coordinating Committee Apunba Meira Paibi, Associations and Clubs cultivated with the burning of effigies of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P Chidambaram and AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
The protesters chanted slogans like "We condemn Khwairamband killing", "Repeal black laws from Manipur", "Punish guilty commandos", "Resign, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi", "Punish police officers condoning guilty commandos" etc.
Similar protest demonstrations were also staged at Keibi, Ningomthongjao, Keirao and Kyamgei.
