Imphal, August 11 2009:
Denouncing continued allegiance of CPI to the Congress led SPF Government in the State and not saying anything in connection with the July 23 incident at Khwairamband Bazar, three left parties, namely CPI (M), RSP and AIFB, have decided to snap ties with CPI on all important issues of the State as long as the latter remains a partner of the Government.
Announcing this during a joint press conference at the office of CPI (M), located behind Pologround here today, State secretary of CPI (M) Sarat Salam said the decision to snap ties with CPI was taken after a joint meeting of the leaders of CPI(M), RSP and AIFB, in view of the fact that the continued partnership of CPI with the Congress led SPF Government may ring out wrong message to the people.
Sarat further said that the ongoing agitation of the Apunba Lup, the JAC and the public over the July 23 incident are democratic but the Government has been trying to stop it with undemocratic means.
This is clearly understood by CPI (M), RSP and AIFB, he said, while informing that the three left parties would be submitting a detailed report to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister in this regard.
State Chairman of AIFB Bimolchandra, who was also present during the press conference, strongly condemned the excesses of the police commandos on the protesters and observed that detention of four activists of the Apunba Lup under NSA is illegal.
He also endorsed unconditional release of the arrested activists.
State Secretary of RSP Ningthoujam Ratan assured that a Parliamentary team of the Left parties would be invited soon to come to Imphal to take first hand account of the prevailing situation.
