Imphal, December 09 2011:
Veteran leader Okram Joy Singh of Manipur People's Party (MPP) has strongly condemned decision of the United Naga Council (UNC) to ban the ongoing rail-line project work from December 16 .
The MPP Legislature Wing leader said the Central Government should have the conviction to initiate punitive action against the UNC, which he said was a frontal which he said was a frontal organisation of the armed NSCN (IM), currently observing a ceasefire with the Govt of India.
The UNC had declared that it would prohibit all works related to the railline project for two months in protest against the recent assertion by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh that there is no proposal for formation of Supra State Body or Supra National Council.
The PM had also declared that the UPA Government is committed to protest Manipur's territorial integrity.
Reacting to the UNC ban, Joy demanded that the Centre should take firm action against the UNC is case disturbance is caused to the rail project.
Addressing a gathering during inauguration of a community hall and public pond at Langthabal Mantrikhong Awang Leikai today, the MPP legislator termed the Prime Minister's comment on preserving Manipur's territorial integrity as very important and satisfactory.
Stating that the UNC's agitation campaign from December 16 is not only anti-people but intent on derailing development activities in the State, Joy said the NSCN (IM) frontal organisation challenging the Prime Minister should be dealt with all seriousness rather than tolerate such an affront under the assumption that the ban call is a part of the Naga integration campaign.
The veteran politician also declared that the MPP will contest the upcoming assembly election on three main issues and elaborated them as threat to Manipur's territorial integrity, political conflict aggravating the law and order situation, and value-based politics.
He also said that the main agenda of political organisations should be on defeating adversary elements plotting to disintegrate Manipur on ethnic lines.
The MPP leader also highlighted various welfare programmes implemented in Langthabal assembly constituency.
