Kohima, November 05 2009:
The routine Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) talks between representatives of Government of India (GoI) and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) was held at Delhi on Wednesday.
Sources from Delhi revealed to NNN today that the Naga rebel group has reportedly shown positive signs of entering into a formal dialogue with the Government of India to resolve the vexed Indo-Naga political issue.
During the threadbare discussion the Government brought up issues of rampant extortion in Nagaland which is against the spirit of ceasefire.
Special Secretary, (Internal Affairs) Ministry of Home Affairs, UK Bansal, who presided over the meeting, had reportedly made it clear to the Naga under-ground group that movement of armed cadres in public inhabited areas would not be permitted and that it would be strictly dealt, sources said.
However, the NSCN-K delegates have denied and clarified that some individuals or groups of people might be carrying out such activities in the name of their organisation but they were not involved in it.
Sources also revealed that the NSCN-K had proposed for amendment of the Cease Fire Ground Rules, which the Government of India has asked them to put forth their proposals with all nitty-gritty and would be taken up in the next CFMG meeting.
The meeting also discussed about the armed group giving shelter to militant groups from other States, but the NSCN-K representatives totally denied any such nexus, sources informed.
Special Secretary (Internal Security) in Union Home Ministry, UK Bansal, IPS chaired the meeting which was attended by NSCN-K representative led by its Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) Supervisor, C Singson and others.
Nevertheless, views of the NSCN-K representatives about the talks could not obtained at the time of filing this report.
