AFSPA issues to land at Delhi's Ramlila ground

The issues related to violation of human rights in Manipur by security forces with immunity granted under Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 is all set to be taken up in the 'social justice conference' scheduled to be held from November 26 to 27 at Ramlila Ground, New Delhi.
Announcing this during a press conference at the office of Popular Front of India, Manipur State unit at Lilong today, general secretary of the Front Arif Khan informed that prior to the conference, the Front would be launching a month and half long campaign throughout Manipur starting from October 5 .
Apart from wall painting, wall poster and street corner meeting, a seminar would also be organised at Imphal as part of the campaign, he disclosed.
In addition to highlighting the impact of AFSPA on the lives of the people, the politics of economic blockade along National Highways and cutting the supply line of the people would also be included in the campaign, Arif Khan added.
Convenor of the proposed campaign Arshad Hussain pointed out that Popular Front of India, which has its headquarters at New Delhi, has been working for the welfare of the people for the last 20 years.
After the campaign in Manipur, issues related to prolong imposition of AFSPA and the over 10 years long fast unto death agitation of Irom Chanu Sharmila who has been demanding repeal of the draconian Act would be taken up the 'social justice conference', he said, while seeking the support and co-operation of the people towards ensuring the success of the campaign.
