AMWJU condemns threats to journalists

Imphal, August 28 2011:
Reacting against the threats issued by unknown persons to Editor of Hueiyen Lanpao English Edition and ISTV reporter M Surendra, the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMJWU) today in its press release strongly condemned the threats issued to the two journalists.
It may be mentioned that a threat letter printed in a paper without any name and signature threatened the Editor of Hueiyen Lanpao English Edition and its entire staff of dire consequences if they failed to contact the persons whose name and identity was not mentioned.
The threat letter was found in the DIPR News Box of Hueiyen Lanpao on August 23 .
In the meantime, two unknown persons threatened ISTV reporter, M Surendra for broadcasting a news item after gathering information through the RTI Act.
Terming it as an act of terrorism and suppressing the freedom of the media, the press release of AMWJU stated that media is the image of the society.
It always aims in bringing the truth to the public.
It also stated that such threats shall not cover the truth for long.
Appealing to the unknown persons to withdraw the threats given by them to the media persons, AMWJU appealed to the government for adequate security arrangements for the media persons so as to do their duty without any disturbances and fear.
