Imphal, October 19 2009:
Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) General Headquarters has decided not to support the ongoing indefinite class boycott stir of the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), and other students' bodies.
Talking to reporters today at the residence of ex-MP Holkhomang Haokip located at Haokip Veng here, president of KSO (Ghq), Pumminthang Simte said the KSO is under strong pressure from the people to address the class boycott issue in order to facilitate the resume of normal classes.
He said, it would be in the interest of all students' communities if the students could start attending school again.
The students' leader said, the KSO appreciates the concern of AMSU for the political and social wellbeing of the sate which at the moment is reeling under political uncertainties ever since the fake encounter incident.
The KSO always cherishes its relation with AMSU on the promotion of quality education and several other issues in the past many years.
Appealing the AMSU, MSF, and KSA, as well as the Lups to review its stance on the closure of schools and educational institutions, the KSO observed that the recourse taken up by the AMSU could also demean the AMSU's policy of quality education.
Simte said, the KSO had promptly condemned when the scandalous fake encounter incident happened and had issued a public statement urging the government to pull up the 'monstrous' police commandos involved in the killings and to award the sternest punishment possible.
"The KSO is ever ready to help AMSU and the agitating Lups to secure justice if it is in a position to end the stalemate in any way other than class boycott and closure of educational institutions," the KSO president asserted.
He also recalled that in 2004, three students from Moreh were gunned down by the police commandos on concocted allegations.
The KSO had protested and esorted to calling bandh and hartals in which the government finally relented.
He maintained that the KSO has never in its history had closed down schools or boycott classes.
The press meet was also attended by vice-president of the KSO, Mangcha Baite, joint secretary, Hengam Haokip and finance secretary, Semhao Khongsai.
