Imphal, February 12 2009: In support of the hunger relay strike being launched by Sharmila Kanba Lup in pursuance of the twin demand for repealing Armed Force Special Powers Act and save the life of Sharmila who has been fasting for more than 8 years now over the same demand of removing the Act, similar hunger relay strikes were also organised by various social organisations at two different places of Bishnupur district today.

At Lamlamgdong Bazar, the agitation was organised under the joint aegis of Chaokhat Thourang Lup, Apunha Nupi Lup, Keithel Chaokhat Lup and Nachou Yaipha Lamjing Lup and was participated by around 150 womenfolk.

Placards and festoons with slogans like 'Public do not want black laws of the Govt', were seen during the demonstration.

On the other hand, Loktak Project Nisha Bandh and Meira Paibi Association, Toupokpi Thinungei Women's Welfare Association; Integrated Women's Development Organisation, Ningthoukhong Child and Women's Development Organization; Women's United Development Organisation, Keithel Phambi Ima Lup, Ningthou khong and Ningthoukhong Gopinath Leikai Meira Paibi Apunba Lup jointly launched the hunger relay strike participated by many womenfolk.

The protest demonstrations at these places began from 7 am and continued till 6 pm.

Hunger relay strike in support of the cause of Sharmila has also been launched in different parts of Thoubal district by various social organsiations of the district over the last few days.

Meanwhile, the hunger relay strike being organised by Sharmila Kanba Lup at Porompal PDA complex completed 65 days today.

Around 200 members of various women groups participated in the agitation today.
