Imphal, October 31 2010:
He had tried many times to make a film on the life of Iron Lady of Manipur Irom Sharmila but all in vain.
Now, he considers it an impossibility, said noted film maker Aribam Shyam Sharma.
Addressing the media at a press conference held at the library building of Thangmeiband Athletic Union (THAU) today, the Padmashree award winner film maker said that he had thought and tried to make a film on the life of Sharmila who has been undergoing a fasting stir demanding removal of AFSPA 1958 for the last 10 years, sacrificing her life for the people.
But, his thought and ability could not translated into work.
"I think I will not be able to realize my dream," he admitted asserting that it was not an easy thing to depict her life and her work for humanity.
He said that the quality, the endurance possessed by Sharmila are beyond his imagination and he does not have enough knowledge to express her worth.
Besides this, there is no equipment worthy of making the film.
"Sharmila is the evening star, shining brighter than anything else in the night sky and I am only a firefly among the film makers.
When I make a film on her, it will not be possible to the true worth of her life.
I fear that her quality will be deluted if I make a film on her," Shyam said.
He also expressed his reluctance to meet Sharmila with a camera for shooting a film.
I would feel shame and fear as I have to go with a full stomach to meet a woman who has been fasting for 10 years continuously.
Really, there is none who can compare with her.
State government is felicitating sportspersons who come out with medals in the national and international events as they bring laurels to the state and the nation as well.
But they have no time to think of Sharmila and her cause even though she has been recognized by the world.
Though not a big contribution but to show solidarity to her cause, TUACO is going to observe a fasting on November 2, on which she started her struggle for repeal of the draconian law, Armed Forces Special Power Act 1958.The body, of which he is the president, will also observe the first week of November as Sharmila's Week, Shyam informed.
He appealed to the people to participate in the fasting.
