State Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) today honoured the pradhan of the Maklang Gram Panchayat, Imphal west H Subhachandra with Nirmal Gram Puruskar Award in a function organized at the Officers' Club, Lamphel.
The award distribution function was graced by PHED and tourism minister, TN Haokip, Principal Secretary, PHED PC Lamkunga as president and PHED chief engineer GA Joychandra as guest of honoured.
Apart from handing over the Nirmal Puruskar award to Subhachandra, certificates of honour were also given to assistant engineer Imphal west division, K Ibochou and section officer, L Hemantakumar acknowledging their sincerity in discharging duties as government servants.
Addressing the gathering, TN Haokip said that to keep villages need and clean is the motto of total sanitation campaign of the state government.
The success of achieving total sanitation campaign lies when people are well aware of the programme and important of need and clean for healthy living.
He also cautioned that flaw in the campaign programme will be a great loss.
Speaking to this reporter, the awardee Subhachandra said that the important of the total sanitation programme is not the construction of latrine for every household but to create awareness of the need of living with clean to the people.
He also said that he had tried his best to aware every 4580 heads of 937 households under eight wards of his gram panchayat.
Water and sanitation committees were also formed in every ward for successful implementation of the programme, he added.
The pradhan started taking up construction of latrines in every households since 2003 but as the population increases from time to time, providing latrines to every household could not achieved.
He also said that during his campaign on sanitation, he got the co-operation of the anganwadi workers, helpers and ASHA from time to time.
In the last around two years there were no reports of infected newly born child by diseases, he claim while stating that the target of living everybody with healthy was achieved with the supports of the people of the villages.
