Based on specific information regarding movement of militants towards Imphal via NH-39 troops of 31 Assam Rifles stopped a Maruti Omni Van (MN01/ W1687) plying from Moreh to Imphal at Khudengthabi check post consequently resulting in the recovery of war like stores, said a PRO IGAR (S) release.
Informing that the vehicle was stopped at around 11.30 am yesterday, the release said the driver and a lady passenger reacted suspiciously during search of the vehicle.
Listing one 9 mm pistol, one magazine of AK 47, one mobile handset (S-580), the PRO said these items were found concealed under the seat and was meant for delivery at Imphal for valley-based insurgent groups.
The arrested individuals namely Sanjay Singh (30) s/o Brajamani of Kwatha (Moreh) and Ening Senapati (29) d/o Amar Gurung of Maram, the statement added that both persons along with the recovered items have been handed over to Imphal West police station on July 25.
The PRO also informed that troops and medical team of 29 Assam Rifles provided immediate medical first aid to three women passengers who were critically injured when the vehicle they were travelling on skidded off the road (NH-39) and fell into the drain.
Condition of the patients, who were later evacuated to the battalion hospital for further treatment, is stated to be stable.
