Imphal, July 25 2009:
The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) and the Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) have expressed condemnation over the shooting incident at a crowded market in Imphal on July 23 wherein a pregnant woman lost her live.
A statement issued by the publicity secretary of AMUCO, Tompok Likmabam stated that the women of the state have to rise up against the 'beastly' act of the police in handling the dead body of the woman without any respect while saying that it was another act of state terrorism.
The AMUCO also demanded a high level probe into the incident to clear the doubts of the people over the incident.
It pointed out that the people of the state have come shouting the slogan to stop extra-judicial killings but some underground groups have turned a deaf ear to the slogan and resorted to trigger blasts at residences, open gunfire, kill and loot on highways.
It also pointed out that the state agencies have also turned their guns towards the people.
The statement observed that the lives of the common people are at stake.
It also urged the people to strive for the security of their lives and remaining as silent spectators will no longer be the way out.
The AMKIL statement issued by its information and public relations secretry, L Gyaneshwari asked why the opposition MLAs of the house did not press for institution of judicial inquiry into the matter when the CM presented the incident in the house on the day of the incident while stating that the security personnel will be motivated to kill more.
The statement also pointed out that it was clear whose bullets the victims were killed and injured.
It also demanded justice and proper inquiry on the matter to clear all doubts.
