In a major breakthrough, Guwahati police today nabbed eleven top Manipur based United National Liberation Front (UNLF) cadres, including a lieutenant colonel and two female cadres from the city.
The UNLF cadres had set up a centre by renting various houses in Dispur, Madgharia and Geetnagar areas of the city, police said.
Based on intelligence inputs, police today raided all the hideouts and nabbed the eleven cadres.
Among the arrested were a self styled lieutenant colonel, two majors, one captain and a second lieutenant, and lady lance coroporals, police said.
TThe cadres, who were being interrogated were expected to be produced in court tomorrow.
Two Maruti Gypsy vehicles, one satellite mobile phone, 20 mobile phones, five laptops, five sophisticated cameras, about Rs 30,000 in cash and some arms and ammunition, were recovered from them.
The police said the militants were using the Assam capital as a base for carrying out organizational activities.
The cadres have been identified as "Lieutenant Colonel" Khwairakpam Jiten, "Major" Maibam Sarat, "Captain" Sinam Boi Singh, Sandaijam Rakesh, Prem Singh, Mutum Ngamba, Tridip Nath, Oinam Naresh, W Sorem Singh, female cadres Landhoni and Hemgi Chano.
The cadres have been subjected to intense interrogation by the police, according to Assam police.
