Imphal, June 19 2009: State boxers Mayengbam Suranjoy who won the lone Indian gold and Thokchom Nanao who won silver medal in the recent Asian Boxing Championship held at Zuhai, China have arrived in Imphal today.

A large number of people accorded them warm welcomed at the Imphal Airport.

Residents of Mayang Imphal, the birth place of Suranjoy welcomed the two boxers and felicitated them at the office of SAG, Khuman Lampak where Suranjoy started his career.

Family members, coach Leisangthem Ibomcha, MLA, Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency, Dr Th Ratankumar, Asian Games Gold medalist Ngangom Dingku, officials and players of SAI, Imphal welcomed them with garlands.

In s simple reception programme held at SAG hall, Khuman Lampak organized by SAI, Imphal, MLA Dr Th Ratankumar rewarded Suranjoy Rs 50,000 appreciating and inspiring his achievement.

At reaching SAG, Suranjoy prayed at the sacred place there.

Giving a short speech, Suranjoy said that his achievement was the result of his hard perseverance and cooperation and help of many people.

The gold medal is his first step of success in his career.

He has many miles to step forward to achieve his goal.

He is also eyeing the World Championship which is to be held in September this year in Italy, Asian Games and Olympic Games also.

Coach Ibomcha advised him to carry on his career with discipline in order to meet his goal.

He also advised other boxers of the state to go forward like Dingku and Suranjoy.

It may be mentioned that Suranjoy started his boxing career in the year 1988 at SAG under coach Ibomcha.

He used to practice at SAG, Khuman Lampak till 2004.He won the gold after defeating boxers from Hong Kong, DPR Korea, Thailand and China in different stages of the championships.

Suranjoy said that he was confident about winning gold in the championship and credited his success to his coach Ibomcha.

It may be mentioned that Suranjoy had so far won eight gold medals one silver medal and one bronze medal in national level, four gold medals, five silver medals and two bronze medals in international level.

Department of Sports, government of Manipur will organized a reception ceremony for the two boxers at the Rose Garden of Khuman Lampak Main Stadium at 8 am tomorrow.

State Governor, Gurbachan Jagat will also welcome them at Raj Bhawan at 4 pm tomorrow evening.

After staying for a short period here, Suranjoy and Nanao will leave Imphal to participate in the National Camp at Patiala for the upcoming World Championship which is to be held at Italy this year.
