All India One day Fast and demonstration to be held on Nov 5

Imphal, October 17 2011: The Save Democracy Repeal AFSPA (group) will be organising an All India One Day Fast and demonstration in solidarity with Irom Sharmila and demanding the repeal of AFSPA on November 5 in major cities of India and in some foreign countries.

The Save Democracy Repeal AFSPA in a press release appealed to all individuals, professionals, students organisations, civil society organisations, women's groups, theatre activists, academic communities, activists and all people who believes in the principle and practice of Democracy to join in the ALL INDIA FAST and Demonstration which will be held on 5th November 2011 in several cities in India and some countries around the world.

It is organized in support of 53 years of people's struggle against AFSPA and 11 years of hunger strike by Irom Sharmila to repeal AFSPA whose fast will be completing 11 years on November 5 .

Meanwhile the Jan Karwan the Save Democracy Repeal AFSPA (group) in a press release stated that it will be organising a welcome ceremony for the team which will reach Delhi on October 19 and will leave for Aligarh on the next day.

A procession and public meeting will also be organised as part of the reception of the journey at the North Campus, Delhi University.

Jan Karwan, the Srinagar to Imphal march is being organised to spread public awareness about Irom Sharmila and her agitation demanding the repeal of AFSPA.

The march will reach Imphal on October 26 after coming through Jammu, Ludhiana, Panipat, New Delhi, Aligarh, Kanpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Ranchi, Patna, Malda Town, Kolkata, Guwahati, Dibugarh.

The march will cover different states during its 4500 km journey.
