Hostel facilities for unprivileged chidren at Leimakhong

Fourteen years old Maibam Sanjoy of Yairipok village Thoubal district was happy when he got an opportunity to continue his school life after he joined an army run boys hostel.
Now, this Class VIII standard student of Kendra Vidyalaya, who lost both his parents when he was in the a primary level school, is staying at 'Disha' boys hostel of the 57th Mountain Division at Leimakhong.
"I feel good to be here as I'm now able to attend (school) classes regularly",Sanjoy who love to become a naval officer in his life responded when asked whether he like the new place or not.This young boy was however unhappy over the disturbance in the functioning of state's educational instutitions due to frequent bandh and blockades.One cousin brother visited Sanjoy during a brief parent-children get together at their Disha hostel here today.
Sanjoy and 23 of his colleagues from the weaker section of the conflict ridden Manipur society were given free boarding and lodging facilities besides other necessary support by 57th Mountain Division and it was run by Territorial Army's 165 Infantry Battalion(H&H)Assam since the troops are from Manipur and also based here,to give them a platform to excel like other colleagues.
"We're also sponsorshing a student to continue his studies in Sainik School Imphal",DS Hooda,General Officer Commanding of 57th Mountain Division said."Our focus is to provide good education to excel and become a resposible citizen" .
The student who continues his studies in Sainik School after staying in 'Disha' was M Stalin(Class VII) of Sugunu under Thoubal district.
Recently one under privileged boy Wungritha Ronrashimray(9) of Nungbi(Longpi) village in Manipur's Ukhrul district also admitted to 'Disha' hostel which was concentualised by the Chie of Army Staff General VK Singh when he was the GOC in Chief of Eastern Command three years back.
Leutenant General RK Loomba,General Officer Commanding of 3 Corps had formally inaugurated the hostel on 29 September 2008 with just 10 under privileged students of the region.
The hostel presently houses 24 students including 6 each from Senapati and Churachandpur districts,2 each from Imphal and Chandel,1 each from Thoubal and Ukhrul,3 from Bishnupur and 4 from Thoubal districts.
