Imphal, August 04 2009:
'The factor which challenges the ties of unity of the diverse communities of Manipur is the Indian Constitution, said Yangsoshong Koireng, President of the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO).
He was speaking at the 12th Integrity Day observance at the AMUCO office today.
He further said that it had been planned that the 12th Integrity Day of Manipur be held at five places of the state with grand functions.
But, he regretted, due to the prevailing situation the programme is organised in a low profile manner.
Y Koireng said the day has been organised to commemorate the massive rally that was taken out on this day in 1997 against the backdrop of the ceasefire agreement signed between the GoI and NSCN (IM).
The rally was organised by AMUCO to prevent the territorial break up of Manipur due to the agreement.
Saying that the Indian Constitution is posing a challenge to the unity of people of the state, Y Koireng called for collective effort to identify the divisive elements.
He also urged the Ibobi government to remember what had happened in Uganda after the reign of Idi Amin.
