Imphal, April 24 2011:
Alleging that NSCN (IM) was behind the April 15 ambush on Phungyar MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing that claimed the lives of eight people including six escort personnel and two civilians, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today demanded a NIA (National Investigation Agency) investigation into the incident.
However, the spokesperson, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Understanding, failed to give a satisfactory reply when reporters asked about the BJP's stand on Sharmila's 10-year fast demanding repeal of AFSPA whereas the Centre had quickly responded to meet Anna Hazare's demand when he launched a fast in New Delhi, during a media briefing at the BJP office at Nityapat today.
The spokesperson lamely replied, "It is the responsibility of the government" .
While demanding NIA investigation into the ambush, the BJP national spokesperson Prakash Javedkar told reporters here that his party will bring up the matter along with other issues faced by the people of Manipur in the next session of the Parliament.
The spokesperson said the assassination bid has left a serious question mark on the credibility of the ceasefire trust signed with the Centre and also in the ongoing peace talks between the two sides.
The BJP strongly condemns the act of the outfit, Prakash said.
Taking a dig at the Congress led UPA government at the Centre, the spokesperson alleged that the ruling UPA has failed in all fronts.
This government cannot control the prices of essential commodities.
It is beyond the belief of the common people that the UPA government led by Dr Manmohon Singh will be able to check the price rise as the government itself is facing various charges of corruption.
Coming to the context of Manipur, Prakash alleged the Congress led SPF government of indulging in corrupt practices starting right from recruitment in government jobs.
While leaders of the SPF government are busy taking bribes, the prices of essential commodities have sky rocketed.
The corruption level is so high that the state could be included in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The SPF government cannot meet the basic necessities of the common people like electricity, water, etc apart from failing totally in the Public Distribution System.
No work for improvement of two national highways, 39 and 53, the lifelines of people of the state, has been taken up satisfactorily.
The law and order is also of concern as ministers and MLAs of ruling parties are doing whatever they like and Chief Minister, O Ibobi is remaining a silent spectator even as his ministers and MLAs break the law.
While the people were unhappy with the lack of legal action initiated against the minister who shot and injured the state's Advocate General, another incident of the killing of a youth by a minister's son has cropped up.
No action to punish the minister's son has been taken up till date, the national BJP spokesperson when on to allege.
People of the state have been wedged between the ministers and the MLAs of the ruling front indulging in causing panic and fear to the people and bearing the brunt of the excesses meted out by militants.
With its unabated mistakes being the cause, the Congress will lose in the just concluded Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry assembly elections and the ongoing West Bengal and Kerala assembly elections , Prakash asserted.
He believed that a Congress defeat in Assam will certainly give an impact to the other states in the Northeastern region.
Announcing that BJP will field its nominees in the May 25 election to the Imphal Municipal Council, he said this will be a part of the party's preparation for the state Assembly election, which will be held in the early part of 2012 .
