Tamenglong, November 04 2008:
Joint Forum for Transport Welfare Tamenglong district, a joint forum set up to look after the welfare of transports in Tamenglong district held its meeting here today and resolved not to accept the new fare of passenger buses plying between Tamenglong and Imphal.
The meeting chaired by its Chairman Mathiusang Panmei also resolved not to allow carriage of heavy goods in the passenger buses.
Moreover, the meeting has set new timings of bus departure from its stations at Wahengbam Leikai in Imphal and Tamenglong Hqs for 6 am and 7 am respectively.
The meeting is also said to have resolved to check transport documents related to route permission, insurance and the likes.
The forum, in a press release issued today said that present fare of Rs.130 was not acceptable since Tamenglong people have been paying more than the fare allocated in the Manipur Gazette taking into consideration the standard of buses plying in this road, the length of road, it added.
Formerly, a passenger needs to pay Rs 100 to travel from and to Tamenglong and Imphal, which was some Rs.30 more than that rate fixed in the gazette since the road condition then was very poor.
But, now the roads have immensely improved, it added.
The Forum said that the bus fare should remain at Rs.100 per passenger till negotiation between the forum and the transporters is reached.
Further, the forum while making an appeal to all concerned not to levy unwarranted 'taxes' or donations on the transporters has also assured the transporters that the forum was there to look after the welfare of not only the public but also transporters, the release added.
