Imphal, December 22 2008:
THE STATE cabinet condemned yesterday's incident of lobbing two hand grenades in the premises of Raj Bhavan by cadres of KCP (MC) and decided to form a committee to immediately review the security of Raj Bhavan.
The committee will submit its report on priority within one week.
The cabinet meeting held today in the conference hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat also reviewed the law and order situation and reiterated the government's determination to completely eliminate such incidents from recurring in future, Secretary to Chief Minister, AN Jha stated in a press release.
According to Jha, the cabinet gave instruction to all law enforcement agencies to take extra measures to bring the culprits to book and to prevent occurrence of similar breach in law and order henceforth.
The cabinet also took note of the incidents of attacks on certain offices and officers being carried out by the underground elements and directed all law and order enforcement agencies to deal with the cases in the sternest possible manner.
In the aftermath of the blast, additional state forces have also been detailed in and around the Raj Bhavan since last night.
Security detailed on the road connecting Keishampat with NH-39 on the eastern side of the Raj Bhavan has also been kept under closed watch.
It may be recalled here that the KCP (MC) of Lanheiba faction had claimed soon after throwing the bombs inside the premises of the Raj Bhavan that it was carried out by the 5th Lanjaba Special Demo Unit of Kanglei
Fingang Lanmee (KFL) .
The KCP (MC) had informed media houses based in Imphal that the two bombs were hurled inside Raj Bhavan complex to show that it was not a party to hold peace talks and it would continue to fight for 'Independence of Manipur'.
The outfit was reacting to the tripartite talks between the Centre, State and a group of KCP (MC) led by Hitendra @ Lallumba.
The second round of talk was held last Saturday in Imphal.
The first round of talk was held in New Delhi in the first week of this month.
