Imphal, October 09:
Reiterating its demand to repeal Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 in toto from Manipur, the CPI Manipur State Council has urged the Union Government to create a favourable atmosphere and take up con fidence building measures so as to bring the insurgent groups of the State to the negotiating table.
A statement issued by CPI maintained it is natural to hold the Union Government responsible for any untoward incident after its failure to implement the recommendations of the Justice Jeevan Reddy Committee and its indifference to the six year long agitation of Sharmila.
Observing that the stoic silence maintained by the Union Government even after a year had passed since the report of the AFSPA Review Committee has infuriated the people of Manipur all the more, CPI Manipur State Council questioned the motive behind concealing the review report for such a long time.
Alleging that no concrete measures have been taken up to initiate political dialogue with insurgent groups, CPI accused the Union Govt of maintaining double standard.
