Bomb attack on Minister's house fails

Imphal, March 07 2011:
Suspected UGs launched an unsuccessful bomb attack at the residence of Md Allauddin, minister for MOBC and Rural Development & Panchayati Raj at Kiyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai under Irilbung PS in Imphal East late last night.
The unexploded grenade which lay at the front courtyard of the residence was defused by a team of Iribung police this morning and disposed off at Awang Ching around 10 am today, a police report said.
The minister was not at his residence at the time.
He is currently at his official quarters in Bapupara.
This was the second time the minister's residence has been attacked with bombs.
Just a few days back there had been a failed attack carried out by suspected UGs.
Security in Imphal has been tightened up since the last few days in view of the visit of the President, Pratibha Singh Patil slated for March 10 and 11 and in connection with the budget session of the State Assembly commencing tomorrow.
Police commandos of Imphal East and West are conducting search operations in various places in greater Imphal area as security measures most importantly in connection with President's scheduled visit.
Imphal East police commandos conducted a search at Lamlong Bazar today around 3 pm.
Around 500 persons of ages ranging from 18 to 40 years coming towards Imphal on Tinsid road, Dingku road, Telipati and Ayangpali road were detained and verifications were conducted.
No arrests were made.
Yesterday Imphal West police commandos conducted mopping up operations at some places in Imphal city areas as part of the beefed up security measures.
