Imphal, February 28 2011:
Guwahati based, Purbachal Youth Front, today announced that on March 23 they will begin a 2733-kilometre march to Gujarat's Sabarmati from Kamarup of Assam to demand government to solve long pending issues like Sharmila's fasting stir among others.
There are many issues confronting the Centre.
Among the issues, the more than 10-year old fasting stir of Irom Sharmila demanding repeal of the AFSPA 1958 is one.
Unchecked rampant corruption practice is another big issue.
There is the need for the people to raise their voice, said Pankaj Kumar, president, Purbachal Youth Front, talking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today.
Other issues to be raised during the march are checking the influx of illegal migrants from neighbouring countries, improvement of education system, safeguarding life and properties of the people etc., he added.
More than 30 people from the NE region including at least 10 from Manipur will take part in the March that will start from March 23, Pankaj said claiming that many civil organisations of the region are extending support to the proposed march.
Stressing the need for encouraging the youth to fight the issues ahead of them, the president said that during the march intellectual and resource persons will be invited to share their knowledge in fighting with the issues.
They will suggest ways which the youth are to espouse while fighting the issues, he added.
