AT LEAST three women protestors injured when the police fired tear gas and used other mob ammunition devises to quell residents of Thoubal Haokha blocking roads to enforce 24-hour district wide general strike in Thoubal district called by the JAC formed against the killing of Elangbam Kiranjit by the security forces allegedly after abduction on April 23 .
Meanwhile, the JAC has demanded surrendered of the Thoubal police commando personnel including the office who led the team in abduction and killing of the Kiranjit within a week time.
Kiranjit was killed by a combined force of Thoubal police commandos and troops of Assam Rifles at Laikot village in the evening of April 23 in alleged encounter.
At least three women among the protestors blocking the roads during the 24-hour general strike called today in Thoubal district injured when police personnel fire tear gas and other mob control ammunitions in dispersing the protestors.
They were Thokchom Sana, Thokchom Subadhani and Thounaojam Sumati.
They were admitted at Thoubal district hospital for medical treatment.
The general strike also affected to the normal life of the people of the district today.
Meanwhile, the JAC formed in connection with the killing of Kiranjit has threatened to launch intensified forms of agitations if the police commandos involved in the killing of Kiranjit after allegedly killing be surrendered to the JAC.
Speaking at a press conference here today, the convener of the JAC, Lisham Tomba said that they have identified the police commando personnel involved in the abduction and killing of Kiranjit who went out to bring back home domestic cattle on that fateful day.
They should surrender to the JAC within a week time.
Otherwise JAC will launch various forms of agitations including giving pressure of any design to the family of the police commandos involve not only to them.
Any untoward outcome out of the people's protest will be the sole responsibility of the police commando personnel, Tomba went to say.
He also said that when the JAC put up the matter to the chief minister, O Ibobi, he remained silent without giving satisfactory reply to the demand of punishment to the police commandos.
The attitude of the chief minister is not satisfied by the JAC and people of the Thoubal Haokha, he said urging him not to remain silent and take up appropriate action against the erring personnel.
