Imphal, April 18:
The National Alliance of Peoples' Movement (NAPM) has strongly condemned the Government of India's stubborn attitude to the demand of hunger striker Irom Sharmila who has been on fast unto death stir for the last seven years demanding abolition of the draconian Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958.Visiting Sharmila at Jn Hospital security ward this morning, NAPM Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir in-charge Faisal Khan stated that in a democratic country no other demands can be more justified than the demands for human rights and protection of the same.
Taking strong exception to the alleged irresponsible attitude of the Government of India towards the cause of the anti-AFSPA crusader, Faisal Khan lamented that even as he had talked with the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Shivraj Patil after his meeting with Sharmila in 2007 but there has no response from these leaders till date.
He said that a consultative workshop on the infamous Act (AFSPA) would be organised with civil society representatives and political leaders of the Northeastern States and their counterparts of Jammu and Kashmir at New Delhi in June.
