Imphal, November 11 2011:
Alleging that Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh led SPF government has been taking the law into its own hands and doing whatever it likes, Manipur People's Party (MPP) has equated the SPF government with the military junta of Myanmar.
In a statement, General Secretary of MPP Robin Blackie asserted that detention of Vice President of the party Yanglem Mangi Singh under NSA on alleged charge of recovering arms from his vehicle although he was taken to the police station for recording a statement in connection with one UG cadre who was found travelling in his vehicle.
This is nothing but taking the laws into its own hands for fear of the imminent defeat of Congress candidate in Heingang A/C in the upcoming Assembly election.
Recalling the incident of seizure of huge cache of arms and ammunition from the Babupara quarters of a senior Cabinet Minister belonging to Congress party sometime back, Blackie questioned why legal action had not been taken up against the said senior Cabinet Minister not to mention detention under NSA.
Similarly, police have announced through media about the arrest of some people involved in hurling bombs at the house of a Congress Minister elected from Nambol A/C and recovering of materials used in making bombs as well as identification of the vehicle used.
But nothing has ever been heard about detaining the owner of the seized vehicle, the MPP General Secretary pointed out.
Moreover, a top police official claimed through media that the registration number and colour of the Gypsy used in transportation of a UG leader, who carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head and escaped from Porompat Police Station, had been identified.
But the owner of the Gypsy had never been arrested nor detained under NSA, Blackie further pointed out.
In yet another incident, an aspiring candidate from Singjamei A/C, who opened blank fire with his license gun in self-defense, had been detained under NSA by the Ibobi government.
However, as the detention was unreasonable, the said aspiring candidate had been freed following the intervention of Union Home Ministry, he recalled.
