Imphal, August 05 2019:
Lauding the appointment of RN Ravi as the Governor of Nagaland, Naga Political Leaders Forum of Manipur (NPLF) has congratulated him on his new assignment and expressed hope that with his appointment as Governor of Nagaland with additional assignment as Interlocutor for the Indo-Naga peace talks, an amicable and acceptable solution to the eight decades long Naga insurgency movement will come closer to a final settlement.
A press release issued by NPLF Manipur today, hailed and appreciated the Central Government for appointing RN Ravi as Governor of Nagaland in addition to his earlier assignment as Interlocutor for the Indo-Naga peace talks and reasoned that Ravi is a man of vision and is well-versed with the hope and aspiration of the Naga people.
The move shows that the Central Government is keen to bring a lasting solution to the issue, it added.
NPLF further appreciated Ravi for the services he rendered in finalising the Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015, wished him a successful and long life.
On the other hand, NPLF appealed to the Chief Minister of Nagaland against the notification for Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN).
It mentioned that in its meeting held on August 2, the forum resolved to convey its strong objection to the Nagaland Government regarding the notification issued on June 22 and reasoned that the register of the exercise or embarking on such mission will wreak havoc to the unity and fraternity of the Nagas as a whole.
It will also jeopardise the Naga peace talk which is not far from a final settlement, it added.
The forum continued that the Nagaland Government decided to complete a Register of Indigenous Naga inhabitants to prevent issuance of Indigenous inhabitant certificate to ineligible persons and the notification of June 29 sets December 1, 1963 (the day Nagaland gained Statehood) as the cutoff date though there has been a demand from a section that the base year should be April 28, 1977.A such, NPLF highlighted that the embarking on such a project by the Nagaland Government will create rift in the unity and fraternity of all Nagas residing in Manipur, Assam, Arunachal, Nagaland and Burma.
RIIN will displace most of the Nagas from Manipur, Assam, Arunachal etc who have settled at Nagaland after 1963, it claimed.
It continued that NPLF endorses the contention of the Eastern Naga National Workers Forum (ENNWF) that all Nagas are one and there are no black Nagas or white Nagas.
The terms Nagaland Nagas, Manipur Nagas, Assam Nagas, Arunachal Nagas and Burma Nagas are derogative languages of the colonial powers and the indigenousness of the Nagas should be traced from the common history, common bloodline, common culture, common territory and common identity, it explained.
A such, NPLF fervently appealed the Nagaland Government to partially modify the notification by excluding the Nagas residents/Naga inhabitants settled at Nagaland from Assam, Manipur, Arunachal and Burma etc.
