Rickshaw drivers' rally in solidarity with Sharmila's cause

Imphal, October 30 2010: Showing solidarity to the fasting struggle of Irom Sharmila demanding removal of AFSPA 1958, rickshaw pullers rallied on the streets in Imphal today.

The rally was organized jointly by the All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers' and Pullers' Welfare Association and Sharmila Kanba Lup.

The rally was flagged off by AMRDPWA president Subash Leihaothabam from THAU ground, Thangmeiband at 9 am.

The rally took the route from THAU Ground to Watham Leirak, Lamphel Sanakeithel, Uripok Canteen Leirak, Naoremthong along Uripok-Kangchup Raod, Tera Bazar, Sayang road, Kwakeithel Bazar then converged at Tiddim ground where a meeting was held.

Leaders of the organizing bodies who spoke at the meeting lamented that the Central and State governments have remained silent even though Sharmila's struggle for repeal of the act is completing 10 years on November 2 .

Before, the rally was organized T-shirts printed with Sharmila's photo were released by the leaders of the Sharmila Kanba Lup.

The Sharmila Kanba Lup is further planning to organise a meeting on the matter on November 5 either at Iboyaima Shanglen or BOAT, palace compound, Imphal.
