Imphal, August 28 2011:
The Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) has deplored the alleged undue imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC along NH 37 (erstwhile NH 53) including area whereas the Government has been treating the issues of SHDDC sponsored general strikes and blockades quite softly.
Reacting to the statement of Chief Minister O Ibobi that lands are owned by the Government which can be re-arranged or re-adjusted, the ZSUM contended that lands owned by people as legacies of their ancestors remain with the concerned land owners, not by outsiders though the Government may levy taxes.
A press release issued by ZSUM further informed that three Imphal bound trucks got punctured at Makru bridge point and the trucks were found carrying Indian made foreign liquors, concealed under thin layers of potato when 22 Assam Rifles came with recovery van.
It further urged the State Government to lift the prohibitory orders immediately, failing which the union would not hesitate to take up its own course of action.
