Imphal, December 27 2008:
THE SHARMILA Kanba Lup (SKL) presently continuing relay-hunger strike has threatened to intensify its stir demanding repeal of AFSPA with the support of other civil society organisations if the state government fails to give a response to their demand by January 10 .
Meanwhile, on the 18th day of relay hunger strike today, around 150 women volunteers of the Mayang Langjing Shemgat Shagat Lup and Kongpal Kongkham Leikai Meira Paibi Lup carried on the hunger strike.
The relay hunger strike commenced from December 10 last.
As expressed by the organizers, till today around 50 different women associations had participated in the relay hunger strike and many others are getting ready to take part in it.
They further said that if the state government remains silent without giving any response to the demand for repeal of the AFPSA and save Sharmila by January 10, then they will intensify their stir.
Even though they did not disclose the kind of stir they are going to launch, they said that they would undergo it till the demand is achieve.
Reiterating that Sharmila's lone unto-death stir had entered eight year, they said "It is the duty of the people in both hill and valley to save the life of Sharmila and reaffirmed the decision to struggle till AFSPA is repeal.
Secretary Mayang Langjing Shemkat Shagatpa Apunba Lup, Kangjam Borkeina while talking to the media persons today said that it is the want of the people of the state to throw away the draconian law from the state.
