Imphal, October 13:
Conveying dismay at the alleged disregard shown to the tribal peoples, specially the student community, the All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) has urged the SPF Government to fulfil the commitments it pledged earlier.
A statement issued by ATSUM alleged that the five years of misrule by SPF Government has seriously jeopardised the career of students.
It reminded that important issues such as extension of pension benefits to all District Council employees, conversion of 13 grant-in-aid high schools, extension of service and pay of contract basis appointees, reservation policy for tribal peoples in central institutes like Manipur University, RIMS, Central Agriculture University etc remained un addressed even as the SPF Government is coming to the end of its tenure.
Asking the SPF Government if it cannot act without an ultimatum, the student body has demanded fulfilment of all the commitments it made to the tribal people and ATSUM by October 19 while warning that the State Government would be held accountable for any unwanted incident in the course of the agitation which would be launched after the deadline set.
