Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) is all geared up for organising various adventure sports and eco-tourism activities as part of the Manipur Tourism Festival, 2006 scheduled to be held from November 6 to 9.The four-day long event is being organised by the State Tourism Department under the sponsorship of Union Tourism Industries.
MMTA has been assigned with the task of handling the adventure sports and eco-tourism activities which would be organised as part of the festival.
The activities to be organised by MMTA include expedition to Tharon Cave in Tamenglong District, river rafting, trekking, hiking and para-sailing, etc.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, MMTA president Ningthoukhongjam Ibungochoubi said all these activities would be organised with the underling motive of spreading awareness among the people on the inherent link between adventure and ecology and inculcate the idea on conservation and protection of the natural resources.
Giving a detailed account of the activities to be arranged by the Association, MMTA secretary Dr L Surjit said expedition to Tharon cave would be organised along with 50 participants during the four-day long festival.
Adventure sports would be organised at the newly inaugurated Adventure and Leadership Park at Lamdan on November 7 and it would be participated by around 100 students, he said.
The river-rafting would be arranged from Iril river to Thoubal on November 8 and it would be participated by around 30 persons, he added.
On the same day, MMTA in association with Wild Life Protection Society, Langol would also be organising a trekking expedition along the Langol hill range, Dr Surjit disclosed.
As for para-sailing, it would be held at Koirengei Airfield on Nov 9 and the event would be organised along with National Adventure Foundation, Dr Surjit said, while asking all those who are interested in participating in these adventure sports activities to contact MMTA office.
