Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) staff protest grenade threats

Councillors, Members and staff of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) today staged a protest demonstration in front of their office gate with an appeal to all concerned not to hurl hand grenades at the residences of any of their colleagues or threaten anyone of them.
Talking about their agitation, one spokesperson of the IMC said that unidentified persons lobbed at hand grenades at the residences of the Chairperson at Kwakeithel Moirangpurel on September 14 and IMC Bazar Committee Chairperson Soraisham Binarani at Thangmeiband on October 15 in addition to threatening some Members through telephone.
Given such frightening environment, the IMC is unable to function properly.
The spokesperson said that the protest demonstration was aimed at putting across their appeal not to repeat such activities in future, and also to help IMC in keeping Imphal city and surrounding areas neat and clean.
Apart from the Chief Minister, there are seven MLAs above IMC.
Leave aside adoption of the 6th Pay Commission's recommendations for IMC employees, the employees have not paid their due salaries fully.
Appealing to all concerned to understand the existing situation, the spokesperson urged not to threaten or exert undue pressure on IMC Councillors, Members and staff.
On account of the protest demonstration, IMC suspended their normal activities including collection of parking fees for today.
