Imphal east police commandos, in a follow up action based on disclosures made by four activists of KCP (MC)-Lamyanba Khuman group caught and handed over by residents of Moirangkampu in Imphal east, arrested two more activists of the group including a woman.
On the other hand, decrying the intimidation to the pradhan, womenfolk of Moirangkampu and its surrounding locality staged a sit-in protest today at Khewa Bazar.
Locals of Moirangkampu, mention may be made, on Sunday caught four activists of KCP-MC faction threatening pradhan Wayenbam Dhiren of Moirangkampu gram panchayat with a bomb in connection with a monetary demand were handed over to the Imphal east police with hand grenade recovered from them.
Police today said that two more activists of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman were apprehended by a combined team of Imphal east police commandos and troops of 28 Assam Rifles a follow up operation.
They were identified as Hemam Boinao @ Boy (25) son of late H Binoy of Moirangkhunou Leikai presently residing at Uripok Sorbon Thingel and Tekcham Kiranbala wife of Sushil of Khongjom Laibung Leikai.
Boinao was apprehended at about 8.30 am from Kongpal Iranpham Thongkohng with three Chinese made hand grenades and detonators while Kiranbala was arrested from her residence at Khongjom around 10.30 am with two Chinese hand grenades, Imphal east additional SP, M Rajen said.
The husband of Kiranbala is also in jail.
Producing them before the media, the additional SP said that these activists used to carry hand grenades concealed in table lamps, a new variant of earlier instances of carrying grenades concealing them in fish cans.
Rajen cautioned the people not to touch or pick up any materials deposited by unknown persons.
Only the two activists arrested today were produced before the media.
When asked about the reason behind it, the additional SP said that the others were still under interrogation and some who are working with them are still at large.
Mention may be made that four persons came separately on the same day, yesterday, and threatened the Pradhan of Moirangkampu Gram Panchayat.
They were caught by the locals of the area and handed over to the police.
Local residents caught two of them around 11 am when they attempted to explode a hand grenade at the house of Pradhan Wayenbam Dhiren while the other two were caught later at about 4 pm.
They were rounded up by the people after a heated argument when the UGs forced the pradhan to talk to their "senior".
At that moment one of the youths handed over a packet containing a hand grenade to the pradhan.
Denouncing the act of the militants, villagers of Moirangkampu today staged a sit-in protest demanding to stop interfering in the developmental works of the village.
Meanwhile, in yet another follow up action to the disclosures made by the four activists, Imphal east police commandos nabbed two more activists of the same faction working to carry out extortions from the general public.
