Imphal, November 26:
The Zeliangrong Students' Union, Tamei Area has urged for early construction of the proposed Barak bridge at the border between Nagaland and Manipur.
The students body observed that the plight of the people of Tamei area during the monsoon season and due to frequent economic blockades could be significantly ameliorated once the bridge is constructed.
Convenor of the ZSU Tamei Area Lungphakbou Newmai quoting sources said that the NEC had approved the bridge construction work.
He further questioned the State Government as to why the construction work has not been taken up till date.
Disclosing that villagers of Katang and Makulong and 13 other surrounding villages under Tamei area faced severe hardships during monsoon season in transporting goods, the convenor remarked that the woes of the people could be effectively addressed once the bridge is constructed.
Moreover, the adverse impacts of economic blockades along National highways on people inhabiting the border area at Tamei can be negated by the proposed bridge, Lungphakbou noted.
He reiterated the appeal to the State Government to construct the bridge at the earliest taking into account of the existing woes and expected benefits of the bridge.
