Ukhrul, June 23 2009:
Atleast 47 persons including three minors were injured, 11 of them seriously, when a passenger bus they were travelling in fell into a gorge early morning today at Dungrei, about 3 kms from Ukhrul police station.
The incident occurred at around 5.30 am today when the driver of a speeding bus (MN06/B-0302) coming towards Imphal from Ukhrul failed to negotiate a turning at a spot near Hundung junction injuring all the passengers onboard.
11 of them who were seriously injured were immediately rushed to RIMS and JN Hospital in Imphal other injured were rushed to Ukhrul District Hospital.
Seven of the victims who are in critical condition at RIMS are identified as S Romesh, AS Leishimi, MD Dulal Azizerl Islam, Nazima Khatul, MD Izazel and Aphin Begum, according to the president of TAKL, Wungshungmi Kasar.
Expressing shock over the incident, the president of All Colleges Tribal Students' Organisation Manipur, RN Koireng has appealed all the concerned to help the victims.
