Imphal, January 21 2010:
To redress the grievances of the NGOs working under it in various fields as a result of the negligence of the authorities concerned of the Government, All Manipur NGOs Forum has set up an RTI cell.
Announcing this during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, president of All Manipur NGOs Forum Y Surchandra informed that there are over 500 NGOs working in various fields in the State today.
However, among these NGOs there are only a few which understand the true administrative culture that is expected of an NGO.
This has resulted in failure of implementing various programmes and policies, Surchandra said, adding that but to view all the NGOs under the same prism would be wrong.
So the NGOs which are actually working for the welfare of the people need to be identified and supported by the Government, he observed.
Unfortunately, there have been instances in which many of the programmes and policies sponsored by the Central Government could not be implemented in time as the related authorities of the State Government failed to pay necessary attention.
Apart from causing loss to the State and its people in many ways, such negligence attitudes may also mislead the people on perception of the NGOs which are genuinely working for the welfare of the people.
To stop this, an RTI cell of the NGOs Forum has been set up during a meeting yesterday.
The newly set up RTI cell would work out a plan of action to identity the areas being neglected by the authorities concerned so as to take up necessary legal action, Surchandra explained.
Other office-bearers of theForum were also present during the press conference.
