With the objective to bring the playwrights of the State in touch with the several aspects of contemporary theatre movements across the globe, a 15 day theatre workshop would be held at Kangla hall from October 17.The workshop would be organised by Khenjonglang, a centre for theatre research and production under the sponsorship of National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi.
Several luminous resource persons like Director of NSD Prof Dr Ankur, faculty members of NSD Mahesh Elkunchwar, Prof Anuradha Kapur and Prof Kirti Jain in addition to a number of academicians and theatre critics would address the workshop.
Speaking at a press meet, S Thaninleima of Khenjonglang informed that the workshop would cover a variety of topics including Indian classical drama, Greek classical drama, Aristotle's poetics, new theatre, new idioms, history of Indian drama (pre-modern) with reference to play-writing, trends in Manipuri drama with reference to school and thoughts etc.
Moreover, a number of plays (drama texts) would be analysed during the workshop, she said while mentioning Abhigyan Sakuntalam (by Kalidasa), Oedipus Rex (by Sophocles), Macbeth (Shakespeare), Arms and the Man (GB Shaw) and Nongshida Ngankhishanu (Kshetri Sanajaoba).
To ensure successful organisation of the workshop, an organising committee has been constituted with Prof N Tombi as chairman and Budha Chongtham, Y Sadananda and Thaninleima as members.
