New Delhi, October 05:
The condition of Irom Chanu Sharmila, who has shifted her six-year-old fast-unto-death against an anti-terror law from Manipur to the National capital, deteriorated today even as eight persons joined her protest as a mark of solidarity.
Sharmila, 33, has been on fast since November 2000, demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
She was force-fed with a nasal tube by the Manipur Government before her arrival here yesterday.
"Sharmila's condition has deteriorated today since she refused to take even water," Babloo Loitongbam, executive director of the Manipur-based NGO Human Rights Alert, told PTI.
He said though doctors have been called to check Sharmila's health condition, she refused to take their advice.
An eight-member delegation of Apunba Lup, a conglomerate of socio-political groups of Manipur, arrived here today and joined Sharmila in her protest at Jantar Mantar.
In Manipur, Sharmila was arrested several times on charges of attempted suicide and subsequently released.
She was released from Imphal jail on Tuesday, following which she flew to Delhi yesterday.
