"May you perform better next time at Rio de Janeiro and bring Olympic gold medals, and never forget we all are behind you", stated Home Minister Gaikhangam during a reception function hosted by Manipur Police in honour of the Manipuri Olympians who took part in the London Olympics.
Bronze medallist MC Mary Kom and fellow Olympians L Devendro, L Bombayla, Ng Soniya and Kh Kothajit were accorded a rousing reception at 1st MR banquet hall today.
Hailing the Olympians as ambassadors of Manipur to the world, Gaikhangam asserted that Manipur can compete with the best talents of the world only if they have a little more discipline.
To do away with the general trend of lauding sports persons when they are in their prime only to push them into oblivion and poverty when they became old, the State Government has initiated certain measures, claimed the Home Minister.
