Troops of 17 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector apprehended an individual at around 2 am today from lower Phaibung area where the para-military soldiers were deployed for search operation based on specific information regarding movement of UGs, informed a PRO IGAR (S) release.
identifying the apprehendee as one Mr Heney whom the PRO described as a cadre of NNWPSG, the released also enlisted one pistol with two magazines and seven rounds as items recovered from Heney's possession.
Meanwhile, the release also informed of AR troops seizing Red Sander wood and banned wildlife products at checkposts established along the Imphal-Moreh route.
The Red Sander wood weighing 20 tonnes (approx) was seized on June 22 by troops of 42 AR who intercepted two Tata trucks (MN01W/4709, RJ141G/2356) and a Tata Indica (MN01/7301) at Bongyang check post.
One Kahniya Lal Jaswal s/o BL Jaswal of Imphal is said to have claimed of the consignment belonging to him, according to the PRO's release adding that the vehicles along with 10 transporters have been handed over to Forest department, Pallel at 10.15 pm yesterday.
The wild life products which included 580 pangolin shells were recovered by 43 AR personnel from a Tata Sumo (MN04A/1475) plying from Imphal to Moreh at around 11.50 am today.
The PRO said one Mrs Kim (45) w/o (L) Tinengil of Lamka (churachandpur) had been carrying the banned wildlife products.
The lady from whom Rs 48,000 Indian currency notes were also recovered has been handed over to Forest Department, pallel along with the recovered items.
