Imphal, October 22 2009:
Even as the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) is convening a public meeting on October 24 in connection with the class boycotting by All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) and Kangleipak Students Association (KSA) in Manipur, similar public meeting will be organised on November 2 by the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) if the classes are not resumed by that time.
Announcing its decision today, DESAM leaders said that the public meeting would be held at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theater (BOAT), Imphal where all the teachers and the guardians of the students of Manipur would be invited.
DESAM said that the resolution taken in that November 2 public meeting would therefore be the 'final verdict' and interference from any organization would be challenged by the students' body.
DESAM chief L.C Santosh informed the media that a joint meeting with All Tribals' Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM) and DESAM was fixed on October 21.However, obliging to the appeal made the senior citizens' organization, Manipur and other organizations to reconsider the decision and so the meeting was not convened, DESAM president Santosh added.
Concerned over the farce academic atmosphere in Manipur L.C.Santosh reminded DESAM's principle which states that 'every student should study.' He then rued that the students have been deprived of education since September 9 .
