Imphal, July 13:
The impasse that resulted following complaints from some farmers that their paddy plants perished after a weedicide named Eraze has been settled amicably between the farmers and the dealers of the weedicide.
The understanding was arrived at during a meeting at Consumers' Club.
Nine farmers of Yairipok lodged a complaint at Consumers' Club Imphal on July 3 that rice grains sown in their fields failed to germinate after using Eraze.
Acting on the complaint, the Consumers' Club investigated into the matter and came to the conclusion that both the dealers and the Department of Agriculture have certain faults for their failure to explain the methods of using the weedicide to the farmers, said Consumers' Club president T Phulchand.
During the meeting, the dealers provided certain amount of money to the affected farmers as compensation, conveyed Phulchand.
