In continuation of the Department of Agriculture's initiative to provide paddy seeds of high yielding hybrid variety IR 64, launched since June 3, progressive farmers of Thoubal, Imphal West and Imphal East districts were provided the same variety of seeds through District Agriculture Officers in the last phase today at the office complex of Cotton Development Officer at Mantripukhri.
The IR 64 variety of paddy can be cultivated and reaped within 100 to 110 days without undergoing transplantation.
The breed can produce 85 to 100 bags of rice in a pari.
Speaking to media persons, ICD (Rice) Scheme in charge L Ibomcha said that IR 64 seeds have been distributed to all districts of Manipur after System of Rice Intensification (SRI) was introduced in the state.
He further appealed to interested farmers to consult with respective District Agriculture Officers to cultivate the paddy variety which can be harvested in a relatively shorter period.
Seeds of the IR 64 variety of paddy can also be collected from CDO office, Mantripukhri on or before August 15,
he added.
