In accordance to a ruling of the Gauhati High Court, Imphal West District Magistrate has issued permission to pay homage to departed souls of PLA cadres on 'martyrs' day' (April 13) at Cheiraoching.
Subsequently, the April 13 Observation Committee has appealed to the public to participate fully in paying homage to the 'martyrs' on April 13 at the Cheiraoching memorial tomb.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, chairman of the April 13 Observation Committee AK Ibotombi said that people have been paying tributes to the 'martyrs' since 1990 taking the help of law after the Government raised different objections.
An official order issued by Deputy Secretary (Home) Th Amalkumar Singh on April 8 gave permission to pay homage to the 'martyrs' at the Cheiraoching memorial tomb but for only 112 people.
Challenging the order, Kh Rebita and others filed a petition at the Gauhati High Court seeking permission for all intending to pay homage to the martyrs.
After hearing the appeal, a single Bench of Gauhati High gave a ruling allowing all interested persons to pay home to the departed souls of the PLA cadres, AK Ibotombi said.
Consequent upon the High Court ruling, Imphal West District Magistrate A Ibocha issued permission for all interested persons to pay homage at Cheiraoching memorial tomb on April 13 .
Appreciating the relaxation given to people coming to Cheiraoching for the April 13 'martyrs day' from the general strike called by the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Dr Th Kishan, Y Token and A Rajen on Apr 13 in connection with the proposed visit of Sonia Gandhi on the same day, chairman of the observation committee urged to the people to participate in paying homage to the 'martyrs'.
