In protest against the thrashing of Kaimai village chairman P Janghuailung by alleged some members of Imphal-Silchar Road Transport Welfare Society (ISRTWS) at Gularthol in Jiribam yesterday, the Oinamlong Kaimai Village Chiefs' Association has called an indefinite Chakka bandh along NH-53 with effect from 5 am tomorrow, reports our Jiribam correspondent.
Condemning the incident, the Chiefs' Association has categorically decided that no vehicle will be allowed to ply on the National Highway until an agreement has been reached between the Association and the Transport
Society.
The Association has also warned that any vehicle defying the Chakka bandh shall be responsible for any untoward incident that may occur.
Meanwhile, supporting the bandh call, the All Jiribam Tribal Union has stated that thrashing of a village chairman without giving any reason is uncalled for and cannot be justified under any circumstances.
Union president H Vaiphei said that the Chakka Bandh will be fully supported by the Tribal union.
