Imphal, November 21:
The All Kangleipak Students' Union (AKSU) has reiterated its decision to disrupt election related activities and closure of political parties' office in case the public demand for repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers' Act 1958 is not honoured.
Interacting with media persons at Bengali High School campus, AKSU's deputy finance secretary LM Raj said there is no question of the student body retracting from its previously announced agitation programme of defying conduct of franchise for the ninth Assembly elections, foil poll campaigns and lock up offices of political parties until and unless the AFSPA issue is addressed in accordance with the people's wish.
LM Raj also negated reports regarding AKSU president Totonsana announcing withdrawal of the student body's agitation plans after assurance by Outer Manipur MP Dr T Meinya that the AFSPA controversy would be placed before the Parliament in the forthcoming session.
He dismissed Totonsana's utterance as a fallout of mis-communication and belittled the MP's assurance insisting that such comments had been frequently made by Dr Meinya's predecessors in the last many years.
Ridiculing the MP's comment, Raj pointed out that without the State Assembly not taking any firm resolution against imposition of AFSPA the aspiration that Indian Parliament would favour repeal of the repressive Act will be a far fetched dream.
As the State public are well aware of the fact that official procedures necessitates the State assembly adopting a resolution for repealing the Act expecting the people to believe that Parliament will act in positive manner is yet another delaying tactics camouflaged by the MP's assurance, the AKSU functionary contended while asserting that its agitation programme would persist.
